Force/Torque Sensors

A miniature six axis force/torque sensor is a highly compact sensor with a diameter of 8 to 32 mm. It is capable of simultaneously measuring three forces along the x, y, and, z axes as well as three torques around these axes. The compact design allows integration close to the point of force application and enables highly precise measurements.

The nominal measuring range (F) extends up to 25 N for sizes HEX8, HEX10, and HEX12, up to 50 N for size HEX21, and up to 125 N for size HEX32. All sensors provide an overload capacity of 300 %.

Accuracy is defined as the maximum deviation relative to the nominal measuring range and is specified as 1 % of full scale. For example, with a nominal range of 25 N, the HEX8 achieves an accuracy of 0.25 N.

Resolution is defined as the smallest detectable change in the measurement signal. The true sensor resolution is 10 bit. The electronics provide 24 bit resolution but are limited by the sensor itself. For example, with a nominal range of 25 N, the HEX8 achieves a resolution of 24 mN, corresponding to approximately 2.4 grams.

The measurement data of our F/T sensors is temperature compensated within the recommended operating temperature range.

Resense sensors are delivered as complete sensor kits including the sensor, an electronics unit, and evaluation software. The sensor signals are initially analog and are converted into digital signals within the electronics unit. The data is provided via serial communication and can be accessed through USB or UART. In addition, C++ scripts and Python utilities are available for direct data access.

Currently, USB and UART interfaces are supported for Resense force/torque sensors. EtherCAT is available as an optional add-on.

The sensors feature threaded mounting holes on both the top and bottom surfaces, enabling straightforward mechanical integration. For optimal measurement results, mounting with metal adapter components is recommended. Individual consultation and best practice support are available upon request.
